May Day Ribbon Inspired Party Decor

Can you believe that May is just around the corner?! And along with it comes “May Day”! As a child, I would celebrate the day with my grandmother, popping popcorn to stuff in our hand crafted cones adorned with ribbon to hang from neighbors’ doorknobs. The glee that I felt leaving the treat at the door and racing back to my grandmother is as vivid as the daffodils blooming in the yards. Even the smell–starchy popcorn with hints of floral sweetness–swirls in my memory of those first days of May.

May baskets ideas are coming later this week, but to start things off I wanted to share some May Day ribbon inspired party decor.

{ chair decor – somewhere splendid }

{ ribbon chandelier - martha stewart }

ribbon place setting { napkin ring – style made simple }

{ bunting – in the fun lane }

{ balloons – wed book }

ribbon canopy

{ canopy - style me pretty }

hanging flowers

{ hanging jars – tumlr }

ribbon screen

{ screen – frog prince paperie }

hanging cupcakes

{ hanging cupcakes – oh cupcakes }

ribbon table skirt

{ table skirt – tip junkie }

chair ties

 { chair sash – pocketful of dreams }

The soft elegance and airy feel that the ribbon provides is so refreshing.

As versatile as it is, ribbon can get a little pricey. Crepe paper streamers can replace ribbons in some cases. There are some pretty remarkable ideas that you can pull off with streamers (see my faves here).
